The Secret TV Diary of Sophie Cunningham aged 39 and-a -half.
Monday, July 21: watch the Big Brother final on Channel 10, knowing that Chrissie, my preferred contestant, will not win. This is because she is fat and smart, neither of which people like much. Reggie, the winner, is like watching the second coming of Pauline Hanson: inarticulate, charismatic, and a fish & chip shop girl. And she does that sexy miniskirt-dancing thing. Then I watch The Sopranos (Channel 9, Monday night, whatever time Micallef feels like ending). This episode is particularly nasty because it makes you have an unexpected flicker of sympathy for Ralph by injuring his son before doing something even more unexpected: Tony goes ape and beats him to death. Then he calls the very stoned Chris to come over and cut off Ralph's head and hands. Apparently this helps drain the blood out of the body and makes it harder to identify. Due to flexible approach to scheduling this episode ends at 12.10pm.
Tuesday July 22: Am exhausted but watch West Wing. (Channel 9,10.30pm). CJ is particularly sexy, and the government is particularly noble. I really like the new scriptwriter who has replaced Rob Lowe. West Wing clashes with Buffy but I have already watched that on tape earlier in the evening. It is the episode where everyone starts having sex with each other because the end of the world is nigh. There are only 2 more episodes of Buffy to go before the series ends and I am quite depressed.
Wednesday, July 23: Go shopping for Buffy DVD's. Must be well stocked up for the eternity that will yawn in the post-Buffy age. I watch The Other Boleyn Girl (see Pick of the Week), which is on telly tomorrow night. Genre: Raunchy historical.
Thursday July 24: The penultimate episode of Angel. Angel is in a parallel universe where he finds the head of a creature to utter Jasmine's (evil incarnate in the body of a new age fruit cake) real name thus destroying her powers. Angel's son Connor goes totally insane. I stay up even later and watch the video of Angel final (Thursday, July 31, Channel 7) in which he cuts his own son's throat. This is, due to a parallel universe twist, a happy ending. But perhaps you'd have to be there. Angel now goes across to Buffy for next Tuesday night's episode. (Tuesday, 10.30pm, Channel 7). Apparently Buffy and Angel will pash.
Saturday, July 26: Watch next week's episode of the Secret Life of Us (Monday, 8.30 p.m, channel 10). Am dreading it because I have seen a photo of Evan and Alex pashing and I really think that subplot should have finished by now. It is a tense episode where pashing is the least of it. Both Alex and Kelly make mistakes that could end their careers. I get very stressed on their behalf and then I become concerned about over identifying with characters on TV. Must find renowned expert to discuss this problem with.
Sunday, July 28. Read a book.
