Awake
Last night cats roamed; inside and out.

We got up at about four a.m. to rescue Wilson (
) from his third fight that night. As I stood outside under the street lamp it seemed to me that the whole night was alive: the bats in the tree over the road; dogs barking loudly; cats flitting past - on roofs, under cars, in the lane. Straight in front of me, above the gallery,(
) a planet seemed huge. I think it was Venus, sinking. (
)When I got back to bed I could hear rustling. Several houses in the street have reported seeing large rats. I think they were dancing down the side of the house.

Is Wilson a local stray?
Do you have your own kitty?
There are a lot of stray cats around, which is a worry.
I miss having a house cat, though. Jack (RIP)
sophie says:
Goodness me, no. Wilson is my very own cat. (Yes, we let him out at night. It's that, or never sleep due to his howls of despair if kept in). But alot of cats have moved into the area and there seems to be some Cat Wars going on.
Darlene says:
It's a difficult one.
Some fascists think cats should never be allowed out. Totally unrealistic. Jack stayed inside at night, and was outside in the day (not always).
He used to sit at the door and let out a plaintive little "let me out" when he wanted to. I think he would have been unhappy inside all the time.
Mind you, if I ever get a pussy of my own (sorry, couldn't resist), I just don't know how I'd deal with the inside/outside issue. Jack was killed by a car, and I don't want that to happen to another cat I adore.
sophie says:
I don't feel too bad about it. I live in the inner city. Only pigeons and mice (and rats) have died - and mostly during the day.Yes, the car this is a worry - but killing with kindness seems cruel also. I think it would be cruel to shut them up if that is not how they were brought up.
