Buddy

Buddy is the dog kept by the owner of the Free House (pub) Hand to Hand. I heard the owner telling the customers Buddy had a weight problem and has, until recently, been too fat to walk. One customer then asked if he could give Buddy some of his pate. The girl behind the bar fed Buddy biscuits throughout the conversation. Buddy, Hand to Hand Free House, Brighton

Actually, I thought Buddy looked quite svelte. But my travels do suggest there is a pet obesity crisis sweeping the world. (Starting with Wilson, my over-linked-to cat, so I'll spare you.) Anyway, the girl behind the bar was flirting with a guy playing the pokies and he said he'd take her to dinner if he won, and she said, 'Only if you take me to MacDonalds'. I would suggest that Buddy is being led astray by the company he keeps.

Update: Goodness, I seem to have spotte a trend. According to the Age today (May 10) there is a pet obesity crisis.

Michelle says:

The Buddy solution is simple. Steal him. He would be a great companion on your walk, and could obviously benefit from the exercise.

Dan says:

Good luck on your walk Soph. It was lovely to see you in Cambridge and have enjoyed reading your blog since. Brighton looks amazing. An English Coney Island? Have begun to write!
