Sad Day
Frida Kahlo Museum, Coyoacan - 3, originally uploaded to Flickr.
Today we set off for the pyramids. After 3 hours in a traffic jam we heard there was bus crash and that several schoolchildren had been killed. We weren't going to get out of Mexico City so we turned back and went to the Frida Kahlo Museum, where I took this photo. Here's what we read when we got home: 'A bus carrying dozens of teenagers to a school field trip toppled off a bridge on the outskirts of Mexico's capital on Friday killing nine people and injuring at least 25 others. . . Highway patrol officials said the bus driver was speeding when he careened off the Emiliano Zapata bridge, causing the vehicle to fall more than 25 feet (7.6 metres) to another highway below.
Federal Preventive Police officer Felipe Arceo said the bus, "lost control. Then crashed over the rails of the bridge and fell over the highway and managed to crush another vehicle."
Authorities said the students on board were between the ages of 15 and 18.'
