Melancholy girl

I just can't help myself. I'm going to blog more Brighton pics - this place is just so darn photogenic, though tonight it feels melancholy as well. Sitting in archives reading the section of Leonard Woolf's diaries which catalogue Virginia's breakdown don't seem to be helping my state of mind. A man given to brevity, statements like 'V. unconscious all day' (the day after a suicide attempt) start to become gruelling.

I think I am also feeling down because I am missing Wilson and more significantly, his photographer. I also head off for a 90 km walk on Thursday evening (to start Friday morning). I am doing it alone and am, not to put too fine a point on it, a bit nervous. I am doing the stretch from Amberly to Eastbourne. Wish me luck. Anyway, as you can see from these pics, I can expect big skies, at the very least.

Virginia says:

Fabulous photographs. I'm also missing the photographer.

Michelle says:

Good walking under big skies, Soph! Remember to breathe (as &D would say). And that it's not possible to overestimate the comfort obtained from one's favourite brand of chocolate.

Laura says:

Great pictures. This whole post reminds me of Sebald's The Rings of Saturn. I'm sure you're having a much more cheerful time than that, though.
