Oguh Oguh

Two nights before the wedding was the Ogu Ogu parade. That was when people built images of demons out of paper mache and then carried them from village to village. We avoided Kuta for the main parade, though the Ogu Ogus (pictured below) were of pretty high quality. The ide is to represent lots of bad demons and get them out of your system before Nyepi the next day. Nyepi is a day of silence.

Scary lady demon

The village Ogus were a bit funkier - note the mask in the baskground as the kids go crazy. Village kids get down for Oguh Oguh

I liked the Bintang monster. Bintang Monster

We watched the parade by getting a taxi to drive us 3 km from our fairly remote hotel and then walking back. By the end it was dark Oguh, Oguh and we carried the sleepy 'darlings' - as Saul and A call their daughters and my nieces - on our shoulders. Cassia pronounced it the best night of her life. She wasn't far wrong.
