Rights

Some ammendments have been made to Australia's insane copyright bill. 'Before the amendments to the bill, experts warned that simply owning an iPod, camera phone or a DVD recorder might be enough to land one in jail or lumbered with a large fine. On-the-spot fines of $1320 were also proposed, which would be issued like speeding tickets, even to those who had no idea they were dealing with copyright infringing material.'

The government's keeness to look after the rights of big business (music companies, movie studios etc) while refusing to look after the rights of one Australian citizen is - well I was about to say laughable, but it's not that funny - so let's just say it highlights that governments exist to protect business, not individual's interests.
