Speed
I don't think that it's an exageration to say that Speed is one of the best films ever made. If you like that kind of thing. Virginia and I have been arguing because she dared to suggest that Keanu Reeves can't act. I am a fan. And by the way, did you know he was born in Lebanon. So there you go.
But anyway, the point of this blog post is that something obvious has finally ocurred to me. The film is about Los Angeles's feelings about public transport, a form of transport it has done it's darndest to destroy since the oil companies began to rip up the tram tracks and railway lines and lay down the freeways (forgive the over-compression of some complicated history). But anyway: beware folks, buses and trains can kill you. I also like the play on our despair when the freeway is going smoothly then suddenly the traffic banks up and you slow down to a crawl. Of course, if you remember the film you will remember that going down below 50 miles an hour can KILL.
