The Downs

Well, I made it. Here I am, 60 miles (90 kms) and 200 photos later. And a few blisters. Of the 200 pictures I took only one really captured the strange, cultivated beauty of the Downs. And it was strange, for an Australian, to find such wild beauty in such a man made landscape, but still, after four days up in the blowy heights, surrounded by newborn lambs, pheasants, deer, lark, and yes, paragliders I felt that I'd been to a very special place. As for my photo taking (hundreds more on flikr )I found it almost impossible to capture the perspective and depth of the landscape. Except, that is, for the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters, which deserve their own blog post. Anyway, here it is: the money shot.

Day 2, Sth Down's Way, Bamber to Kingston nr Lewes - 32

Views from the Floor

Kirsty says:

Stunning. What's that top yellow layer?

sophie Cunningham says:

I think it's Rape Weed - or the Rape Oil plant, or something like that.

Pavlov's Cat says:

Isn't rape just an old (and unfortunate) name for canola?

Another fabulous photo. I particularly love the flying bird.

sophie Cunningham says:

Ah, I wondered if there was another (better) name for it. It's still called Rape weed around these parts. Weirdly - creepily - since I had the word 'rape' on a post I have been besieged by junk comments.
