The good old days
Does anyone else think these details in the Ralph Fiennes Aussie air-hostess sex romp story are unnecessary? 'They had passionate and apparently unprotected sex. . . she met up with the Oscar-winning actor again in Mumbai, after arranging to meet at Fienne's hotel room. There, they apparently spent 'a passionate night together, this time practicing safe sex'. Let me make it clear. My position is she's done a fine thing, and I would have welcomed the opportunity to do same. But can't we enjoy lurid sexual fantasies without having to be informed about safe sex practices? It reminds me of trying to have sexual fantasies when I was about 18, during the herpes then AIDs safe sex campaigns. I would feel guilty if I didn't figure out a way to include the 'putting on a condom moment' in said fantasy. That's right folks, even my solo sex was safe. My brain had been totally colonized by advertising. And while we're on the subject, and months after the fact, may I ask what the point of fining Robbie Williams for smoking on stage was? He's a rock star. It's his job to smoke on stage.
Never would have happened back in the 70s grumble grumble etc. etc. (I blame John Howard.)
Update: It would appear I might have to backtrack on this one. According to today's Australian 'Fiennes . . . was in India to promote safe sex as part of an AIDS campaign.
More update via Defamer. Now sex experts are discussing Ralph's mile high bonk. "It's a delicate line," [Marian Dunn, director of the Human Sexuality Center of SUNY Downstate Medical Center] says. "Some of these things, such as having sex in a public place, are kind of bipolar in terms of the excitement factor." [...] But the line between compulsive behavior and simple naughtiness may be difficult to draw in many cases. [Sexuality expert Don] Dyson says there are those who may not have a sexual compulsion, but who exhibit "behavior that some might consider naughty."
